Rebuilding a 2.2 ohv and need help / ideas
Sunday, July 02, 2006 8:40 PM
Hey everyone been a long time since i posted and i need some help again.
I have a 94 Cavalier 2.2 OHV . I work at a junk yard and have easy access to lots of different 2.2 engines.
So i grabed one from a corsica 2.2 ohv but it's not Fuel injected I put it on a motor stand in my basement and ripped it down to nothing i am going to buy all new parts for it and do everything i can to beef it up and drop into my car but i dont know where to start. I have been reading alot of different things about witch is better Fuel injected or non fuel injected and have no clue. Any ideas or information would be awesome!
Thanks

all 2.2l engines are fuel injected, only the old 1.8l engines are carbed. your 2.2l will be throttle body injected. now iirc, the 2.2l tbi and mpfi use a different cylender head.

hmmm.. interesting. well on my 94 cavalier i have fuel injecters and on the 2.2 in my basement theres just a carb with a butterfly valve in it. no fuel rail or tb so i figured it wasnt FI. My bad. Anyhow. would it be worth it to just rebuild it with all new parts? Rings, crank bearings, all new gaskets, and so on. or should i do more to it. "This is my first rebuild so any ideas would help

yeah thats a throttle body (fuel injected) if you look while the car is running you can see the fuel piss out of the injector "floating" above the what you call the butterfly valve.

in regards to this. I don't or at least I havn't seen anyone cut you down, were mearly correcting you so you will know in the future, and butterfly valve sounds good, or at least thats what I would have called it too. but this site is very helpfull when it comes to questions and such.

Well, 'cause If I tell you to change the windy things that hold the little mushroomys so the spins are faster, and change the bumpy and make sure you get a big iron with bearing barrel ends instead of flat barrels, you won't have a clue what the #@%^ I'm talking about.

Sorry, man, but you're talking to people from all over the world and they can't be beside you looking at the parts you're looking at. I'm not trying to be a jerk here... it's just that a few slips on the name of a part can cause all sorts of mistakes and wasted time and effort for others.

Look through the performance forum for suggestions. There are plenty of threads on the 2.2 OHV which have serious plans. "2200 power record" might be a good one.

if its a TBI block ditch it, find a 94 block they have the roller cam, 95 block from a 3rd gen should work too since it has a vacuum egr and same bolt bosses drilled and tapped and yadda yadda
