OHV - 2.0 TBI to 2.2 MPFI
Friday, June 30, 2006 2:31 PM
Curious if anyone ever used a 2.0 shortblock under a 2.2 head/MPFI setup. I have a friend with a 94 Cav sporting a wounded engine, and I have a fresh*er* 2.0 motor in an 88 Cavalier laying around.

I think the only other potential problem would be if the block is drilled for the oil filter adapter, but would the car still run OK with the shorter stroke?

Hey i am trying to do the same thing. i work in a junk yard and have alot of different engines that are easy to get to and i guy i work with did exactly what your talking about. He said everything went smooth and when they put it in the car had mad bottom end power but not much at high speed. He said something about there was a hose coming from the block that was suposed to go to the head and the new head didnt have the same port for the hose so they had to plug it off. I guess it put antifreeze through the TB. I'll ask him if there was any other problems and repost asap. and actully i might do that instead of the 2.2 rebuild project i have going on now.

I'm a little confused at why putting a smaller engine in the car would have produced more low end torque and less top end.... ? The only reason I considered this for my friend was because I had the motor laying around, but he ended up finding a 2.2 anyways.

Swapping your 95 2.2 for a 2.0 isnt a very good idea for several reasons, one of them being you'll be giving up a roller cam for a flat tappet.
