my dad said its a vacuum hose or something? its about 1.5 centimeters in diameter, its got grooves on the outside of it and its about 18 inches long. coming from somewhere below the air filter but closer to the engine and not in range of the hole under the air filter harness thing. i really don't want to just leave it alone and i need to know right away what it is. pics by tomorrow night promise but hopefully one of you already knows.

89 cavalier 2.0 4 cylinder....

Sounds like it might go to the charcoal canister in front of the coolant recovery tank?

Front passenger corner of the engine bay, behind the headlights?

Carbon/evap canister allows expansion ventalation gasses from the gas tank (mostly hydrocarbon) to be released without hurting the Ozone layer. Just emissions crap.... I don't have it in my car anymore.

Looks like one of the vacuum lines for cruise control diaphragm. That's the only vacuum operated thing I know of over in THAT corner. You also have the line running off of the windshield washer fluid resevoir. If it plugs into that tanish tank right next to it, that is what came off... nothing engine related.

it plugs into a metal tube that leads towards the firewall

today my dad said it might go to the transmission. he's losing his credibility...

Oh yah.. there is a little tub that plugs into a metal tube... just runs up by the strut tower and turns down. That is the tube for the transmission to breath with.
