I found a 92 Cavalier RS at a local place that sells wrecked vehicles. This car was hit on the passenger side at the edge of the front fender. It took off the front bumper, lights, and bent the bumper support and core support on the passenger side. The bumper support sticks out quite a bit on the driver's side. I'm sure there are other things bent that I can't see. Both fenders and hood have damage. Since these cars are unibody, how easy is it to fix front end damage or these supports that I mentioned. Can they be removed and replaced with ones from a donar car?
Car is otherwise in excellent shape with no rust and has 76,600 original miles. It has new tires on it and the battery looks new. Actually the whole car looks like new except for the damage. Guy said the car will run and drive but he accidently locked the doors and doesn't have the door keys, only the ignition key. He wants $500 for it. Is this a good deal? It has a clean title. I can also get a 91 RS sedan from my girlfriend's parents neighbor for $50 that has a decent front end on it.
So, is this something that can be fixed or should I pass. I also have a 92 Cavalier that someone gave me that I just put a junkyard motor in but its pretty rusty. Thanks for any advice.

Hi, Wayne.
I don't know what the area around you is like. I found a 94 Cav with 76k original miles and no major damage for $800 in the local paper. I drove it home for $650. And that's with a decent stereo and good snow tires.
I'd expect to get the car you're talking about for $200 or less and probably for parts rather than repair.
-->Slow
dude that car is not worth anything near 500.
offer him something between 100 and 200. its totaled and you will put at least 1000 into repairs
I wouldnt even try it. By the time your done fixing the obvious and theres always some things you dont see at first to make it right your gonna have about 1000 or more in it. Is it really worth it for a 92 anyway. Theres plenty of latemodel cavs and sunfires setting around with less damage for the same money to fix yours or maybe even less. If it was me I would at least look around and ask around and search online to get the best for the buck I could get. Why settle for a 92 when you could find maybe a 95 or later to put the same money into. To each their own but at least research first. Also too you might want to check out some local independent dealerships. They sometimes have trade ins and cars they bought as fixers or parts cars setting around back or on storage lots. Sometimes they will come off them for cheap just to get rid of them or get them out of the way when they are done.
Well, I bought the car and got it fixed. The damage to the unibody only cost me $225 to get fixed and I bought the entire front clip off of a cavalier in the junkyard that was the same color for $250.
I don't know where you guys live but around here, you don't even see these cars for sale hardly ever and when you do see them for sale, they are way more than the prices you are quoting. The other problem is that most of these cars that I see around here are rust buckets so to see one that is rust free like this one is pretty unusual. Looking at this car, I would say it was garaged most of its life.
My other 92 Cavalier is a rust bucket and is typical of most of the cars I see around here.
I have about a $1,000 in this car and it should last me for quite a few years still. I'll make that up in no time in gas saved compared to driving my truck which was killing me in gas.
I may have more in it than its worth but I now have a nice economical car to drive for awhile.

nice job...
i got my 89 2.0 coupe for 350, spent 650 on tires, a catalytic converter, rims, and cooling system repairs.
so we almost broke even......... but i have rust in my doors. so i suppose you won.
unless you can't pass an emissions test..
Thanks. Luckily around here, you don't have to pass an emissions test but I don't think this car would have a problem passing. Its been well kept up and looks like its been serviced regularly. I just need to get it inspected and tagged and I'll be on the road.
PS. The A/C also works great which is not the case with my other 92.
