Im looking for a muncie 5 speed for my bird. I ended up blowing mine right at the end of my street haha. I guess you could say it was a convenient pain in the ass. Im looking for a rebuilt one and I need to know the best place for rebuilt trannys for this car

the best you may come up with is a used one from a junkyard. what did you blow up on it??? the turbo bird tranny is actualy very close to a v6 muncie/getrag (only difference is the bellhousing and 2nd gear ratio). what you could do is get a v6 tranny and have it rebuilt with your front case half. only difference then will be 2nd gear. if your 2nd gear is ok, they could put that into your new tranny.

ok so you blew the diff up them. if you able to snap a pic or 2 of the damage, post em up, id like to see it.

hopefully your front case half is still usable.

will do buddy......Im going to salvage anything I can out of the tranny.....is there anything I can do to beef the tranny up so I can put more power through it......Oh and ive got another question for ya......for about 6 months before my tranny went.....It always seemed as if I had a blown torque strut because it felt like my motor would bob if i was only 1/4 throttle......I had to be super smooth on the throttle to ensure it wouldnt bob.....I replaced every mount with a polyurethane one and yet it would still bob......could this be a result of a shotty diff in my trans?.......on another note.....I had to replace a pin in the tranny about a year ago and my mechanic noticed the clutch had some unusal wear......it seemed as if it wore on one 1/4 of the plate more than the other 3/4's could this be contributory to my problem now? any suggestions for a really good clutch I can install before I put my tranny back in?

How in gods name did you blow the diff in an HM282!?! What the hell are you doing with it? Seriously that diff is good for 300 lbs/ft of torque easy even on slicks. DId you have oil in it?!

I'm going to be going with Royal Purple Synchromesh. After a lot of research it looks like the best choice, but I haven't actually tried it yet.. shoud be driving it in the next few weeks though with it in it.
