Listen to the motor run. Ask if you can remove the turbo to inspect the fan/bearing assembly....

Holes in the block are a good clue.

I'd look to see if a head gasket has been done recently. I'd estimate bearing condition by the amount of time it takes before the engine builds oil pressure on startup after sitting for several hours. And watch for "thick" oil in the crankcase. Check for oil leaks in the common spots. Cam cover, distributor O ring, base of oil fill tube, and crankcase breather hose (small hose on metal tube next to oil fill).

if your really worried about rust inspect the trunk......they gather a lot of moisture......take the intake tube off the turbo ( 2 nuts ) feel the fan blade for movement and for chips.......the idle should be at around 900 rpm........I can guarentee that if the motor mounts are OEM they are probably blown.............check the door hinges......coupes tend to have the hinges go due to the heavy doors...... thats all i can come up with.
