Im basically looking for 2 dr 5spd car that gets good mpg. I seen this car for sale for $990 CDN. It says recent trade in, as is. It also says it only has 106, 911KM (i doubt it tho). I was thinking to just buy a 20 dollar vacuum gauge and see if the engine ok. And maybe, take it to a mechanic to check if it needs anything to be safetied.
What do you guys think? Its my first car, looking to get from A to B and dont want to dump a whole lot of cash in it. I just need it to last me 2 yrs or so. Thanks for any advice I can recieve.

990 cdn is great for that if it runs well.
I test drove the car today and the car in MINT. Not much rust, the interior looks like its brand new. The clutch and brakes are in good shape. Accept the parking brake needs to be adjusted. Then engine is running really good. Tires are good, temp stayed where its suppose to be. Sterio, defrosters, a/c, heat, wipers, horn, everything f'n works and i cant believe that. It must have been ownd by an old guy cus the stations were set to am, i found a golf ball and there was no cd player, just cassette. Whoever owned it, kept it up really nicely. I really believe that there is 106km on it.
I talked the guy down to 700 and he may go lower.
The front right side of the car is making a noise and im going to have to check that out, but otherwise really good condition. Im buying it on Monday, I cant wait to get it. Only thing is im going to have to wait til nov, my bday to get it insured, so it will be in the garage for a little. I cant wait

Buy it i just bought one myself the guy was the orignal owner got for a $1000 cdn
then you'll have time to work on whatever's causing that noise while you wait for your birthday to get that lower insurance rate..
I heard they run forever. Do you think you guys can give me your opinion on what the noise is, i know this is about the best place to ask for this. It sounds like something is hitting the right front tire. I duno, it has sort of a wheel bearing kinda noise or a bad front shock but its not consistant, i duno. The car looks like it has lowering springs but it doesnt. You cant see much inner wheel well front and back. I hope all sunbirds are sort of like that, dont want to go do any springs. Thanks in advance if you can give me some insight guys
Im buying it tomarrow, maybe i can get the price down another hundred.

Oh, I had a question, is the 2.0L an interferiance engine.
I dont really want to do preventive timing belt maintenace, but if the engine is interference, i might have to. What do you guys think?

my timing belt snapped @ idk 110,000 i was 50 miles from home that was fun...
the 2.0 imo is indestructable... i put it through hell...
cavs have timing chains, i didn't know birds had belts....
hey sunb1rd, are the 2.0's interferance engine?
Did anything break when the timing belt went or did you just replace the belt

i dont think so... when my belt snapped i didnt have any internal damage and its been running the same for the 20,000+ miles after
Good to know, im just going to wait til the belt snaps then. Thanks man

theres 0 chance of damaging anything on 2.0 sunbird motors.
Well, i bought the car today. The final price was 823. I wanted to do a compression test on the engine since there was a shop next door, but they were charging 95 bucks for one. Then i asked for a vacuum test, but they didnt have a vacuum gauge, which is stupid. So i said f*ck it, ill buy one and do it myself. So i bought one for 30 bucks and it had steady vacuum at about 18in of mer. and when i reved it up, it went down and past 20 so i decided to buy it.
I want to thank everyone for their help and input. I am really, really happy with my purchase. Peace

Thanks Sunb1rd. I think i got to do something about this screen name. lol
Hopefully this bird will last me to the point where i can use it as my winter car when i buy the firebird i have always wanted. Feels good to finally own a car, especially a pontiac.
