Ingalls torque damper on 2.0 turbo bird
Thursday, October 05, 2006 8:42 PM
Im planning on installing one of these adjustable torque dampers on my motor.....but I dont exactly know where the most efficient place to mount it would be.....im still having a problem with on and off throttle engine movement......I dont know what way the motor is moving......i would assume up and down ......because all my mounts are polyurethane......anyone else have this problem........anyone know where to mount a torque damper from the motor to the chassis on these motors?......someone HAS to have the same problem......I think the 2.0 turbo is too powerful for the OEM mounts.....

Unless you've got a full on race car you really don't want solid mounts.

The latest "thing" is to believe your horsepower somehow magically disappears if the engine moves. Engine movement is part of a torque reaction... basic physics, equal and opposite, Newton's first and all that. A little engine movement is fine, and some cars even manage to go fast with a lot of engine movement. If you're bracket racing and want very consistent performance, you might want to make sure the engine doesn't move to improve your RT. Otherwise? I don't see a need for it.

Look at the other side of this. Let's say you limit engine movement completely. Now every time you shift, or punch the throttle, or even when the wheels hit bumps under acceleration / deceleration, the torque reaction which used to be absorbed in the engine mounts is now transmitted to the body. It's like taking a prybar and hammer to the body of the car. The factory didn't build the car with this abuse in mind. Things are likely to break. Are you really sure you want to do this?

Just something to keep in mind.

engine mounts only truly help with instantaneous torque experienced during shifting or a hard launch, once your moving the engine mounts only really help keep the vibes from the engine away from the rest of the car. Unless your driving a toyota, reads bucking bronco in the engine bay, more likely than not your stock mounts are blown. Unfortunately my expetise isn't in second gen cars but I think the lower dogbone if you have one should be the same and replacable by a prothane one available at most JBO retailers stores.

i totally understand where your coming from......but i have engine bob.....that means that my mounts arent doing their job.....I would like to dampen the torque.....so the motor can still move and i can smooth everything out......
but hey.....i dont really care about my 2.0 bird right now.....i feel like driving it off a bloody cliff infact.....I think I just melted a second head gasket in a month......the head gasket is a joke on this motor.

I had a fel pro.......i just blew it......and i know why.........I was running lean do to a failing fuel pump......with boost that equals extreme heat......my temperature guage never showed a heat issue but there had to have been........What would be my best option when it comes to headgaskets......cometic is awsome....would copper be the way to go?.....should i O ring my head?..........whats the best head gasket for a 2.0 turbo?? and where can i get it??
