Hey!! I'm new here!! I just bought a 1988 Sunbird GT Turbo Convertible and were wondering how many were made? Its auto, red ext/ gray int and white top. I've been googleing all night with no luck and came across this site. I know these cars are very rare from what I've been reading. Thanks!!
i know this... if you can get to a borders bookstore they may have a pontiac book in the automotive section... its hardcover and f*ing huge... in the back it has production number breakdowns for all most every pontiac... it WILL be in there... every search engine i've tried failed miserably...
Ive read that only 1800 sunbird turbo convertible were ever produced in north america.......ya......its rare. Ive got the coupe but i dont know the numbers on mine.....
Is that 1800 for all years or just for 1988? That is rare. I thought it was like 3000 or so. I got a collector!! Its really nice and been taken care of. It has 101,460 miles. It was owned by an elderly man who bought it new and sat for 5 years. I paid $500 for it and put it in the shop yesterday for brakes and tires. It runs great and the paint still looks excellent even though its dirty but It will shine and look like new when I wash it. The only thing wrong with it is the top was damaged during a hail storm. Thats why they stopped driving it so I found a top and window on ebay for $240. I think I got a really good deal. Thanks for the info. I've never heard of borders. They might have one in Charlotte. I'm gonna check that out.

I wouldn't have thought the turbocharged convertable is that rare. I have a '90. Ohh, I just remembered today how well my car loves the cold air. These things really need an intercooler.
If you contact Pontiac Historical Services and request a history search on your car (it costs $25 bucks) ask them if they can give you production figures on your year too. I did it on mine and they sent me a sheet that listed 1984 to 1987 in all body styles. Worth a try.
