So my 1990 Z needed some work. I pulled it into my bay and began the journey. I didn't think the job would be to hard but a lot of things came up that was unexpected and now I'm looking for some answers on why....
My car started grinding in all gears.... So I thought "hydraulic" well I bought a new clutch master cylinder and pulled the slave unit connected to the bell housing and bench bled the whole system.... I began to install the system. Installed and the problem was the same. Gear clashing in 1-5 and Rev. So I found a TSB that stated the pressure plate bolts might be working loose. So I dropped the tranny got a new clutch and bell-housing. Put new rear main seal and both axle seals in and notice my clutch fork and pin bearings was SHOT! so that was another 250 dealer only item. Installed new release bearing pressure plate and clutch. I also turned the flywheel on the brake lathe (cut about .002 off) just enough to knock the hot spots down a little. Install everything and got it running. The car shifted better but still releases VERY high. Clashes in all gears as before but not as bad. 3 days later the motor takes a poop. I haven't figure out what has happened yet because I haven't put it on the rack yet but lots of smoke and oil out the bottom.

I got a clutch for for an Izusu; I have a muncie. Do they use the same setup?
My temperature sending unit went out. I replaced it with one I have in a spare engine. I then got 3 codes, Coolant to cold Coolant to hot and EGR Circuit or Malfunction.... What could have caused that? is that my prime suspect for a blown motor?
you said you clutch is releasing high, but you still have gear clash??? if the clutch is releasing high (meaning the pedal is almost right out before the clutch grabs) and there is clash, you may have a colapsed pressure plate. ive run into this before , it can drive you nuts trying to figure it out. were all the fingers flat on the pressure plate when you bolted it up??? if one was the slightest (even 1/8") bit lower (closer to the disk) it can drag the disk and cause clash.
if the clutch was releasing at the floor, i would say you have air in the hydralics, or the slave is toast
I installed a new pressure plate all that was new.... could it be the way its bolted?
Does pressure plate from Izusu fit Muncie??
I don't think the clutches are the same. They are all listed differently.
If you just put in a new rear main seal and now it is smoking from the back there was probably an error in the part or installation. Since you have to drop the trans again anyway, you will be able to check.

just because you have a new pressure plate doesnt mean its good. i did a clutch job on an s10 a while ago, and 5 clutches later i got one that worked. the problem was the clutch would release at the floor, grind into gear, ect. what it ended up being was a bad run of valeo pressure plates, and for a 4.3l s10, Luk, dynapack, and valeo all use a valeo pressure plate. this caused me a lot of headakes, and i ended up having the tranny out 3 times before i got a good clutch.
The Isuzu tranny was only on 2.0 Sunbirds, wasnt it?
no the isuzu tranny was on the ohv motors aswell. actualy, if you want to get technical, the isuzu has been behind

thats just the corperate gm cars. saturn, isuzu, and saab also use them.
