Heya, not new here but had to re-register. Have the 88 Skyhawk 2.0 ohc. Want to know what Auto is compatable to my motor?? Newest would be nice. Mine just took a dump on me. Need some verifying. Also, how would I know if I need to replace the torque converter in my transmission as well?
the only trans that will work is a 125 from a 2.0l ohc, anything prior to 92. 92 plus would require you to change the speedo, not to hard, just a couple bolts. if you are getting a used transmission, you will get a converter with it. its important to use that converter. your old converter has burnt/contaminated oil aswell as metal and clutch material from the old transmission, and if you use it, you will contaminate the new transmission.

A 125?? Soo anything than basically has the ohc 2.0 up to 1992?? Is there a how to do somewhere on the speedo swap?? And what years could I take the transmission for the 92 plus? I would love to have almost a brand new transmission if possible.
The 8 valve 2.0 OHC engine disappeared in the US after '94.
Later transmissions tend to be better in terms of design. GM usually spends years making a trans work well, and just about the time they get it right, they stop using it.

I really want to get a transmission from the junk yard sometime this week. If anybody out their knows of newer transmissions I can grab that needs simple modifications. Please post. Thanks.
only one you could use is a tranny from a 2.0l ohc, you can use one up to 94. you will need to swao the govoner and speedo, all it is is removing 2 bolts on the speedo housing and pulling the govoner straight out.
How about telling me what cars these are that have the 2.0 ohc up to 94?
only the sunbird up will 94. the grand am had it aswell, not sure of the years (thinking 87-90). the lemans had a 1.6 and 2.0l, aswell
hey bud u need to find a 1989 to 1994 thm 125 ot thm 125 c this trans is also identified in gm service manuals as a 3-T-40 or 3 -T-40E for the electronic version
HORN BROKEN.....WATCH FOR FINGER!!!
there is no such things as a 3r40e. gm changed the name around 1990 from 125 to 3t40 to match what they did with the other transmissions
700r4 became 4l60
th400 became 3l80
440t4 became 4t60
the name actualy says something about the tranny. take 4l60 for example. 4 means its a 4 speed, L, longatudinal mount (in line), 60- the torque rating, gm numbers. some of these transmissions later became electronic, adding the E at the end, 4l60e, 4t60e.
the 125 was no exception, however, there was never an electronic 125, or 3t40. the 3t40 was used till 2002 behind the 2.2l, and the only electronic operated thing was lockup, like all gm vehicles were.
ahhh., its cool. I found one at the loca j yard. Grabbed if from a 88 Skyhawk two door. Guy at the place said it ran good. 150 bucks one month guarantee.
