I have a 94 with no tach and I want to get a set of guages with a tach, does the 94 have a tach setup plug or is it a useless question??
I am heading to the junkyard to see what I can come up with this weekend so if that is a possiblity then let me know.
I don't know j-body's yet........but I will!
Most of the time the same harness is used for different gauges...at least you can try, and see how it goes. If not, you can return the cluster, or pick up the harness and swap it, if you really want one...
I just bought an aftermarket tach and attached it to part of the dashboard...
i think aftermarket is the way to go. why mess with your factory harness and stuff when you can get something nice aftermarket make the car look a bit sportier too.
but I read a few posts that aftermarket tachs do not read properly without an adaptor, and I wasnt lookin to drop 200 on a tach and adaptor or something like that when I could go to the junkyard and get a hold cluster for 45................but tell me how to get around using an adaptor and then i'll ask how to put on the tach..........lol

dont know anything about an adaptor..lol..my z came with a tach =P im sure somebody else here put in an aftermarket tach...adapter huh?
everyone says on other forums, that you need an adaptor to make the rpm's read right. If thats not the case then let me know and I will just wire up a tach, and mount it on the dash.

You do not need a tach adapter with a 94 2.2. This has been asked and answered quite a few times. Search and you'll find out exactly how to do it. (on a side note, 90% of the cars out there don't need an adapter if you know what you're doing. Adapters are sold for people who don't know any better, just like "camber kits")
If you are interested in swapping in a 2.2 RS cluster, it will go right in and work, but they are pretty rare. If you want to swap in a V6 cluster, that will work as well, but you will need to do some mods to the actual cluster. There is a How-To on www.v6z24.com for it.
james you are the man......lol
Almost every question I have asked you have been able to answer, thanks alot for your help

Did the 1994 RS come in 2.2 or just 3.1, I found a 3.1 rs gauge cluster on Ebay and its what I want, but I need to know if it will fit and work with the 2.2 engine

A 3.1 cluster won't work without the modifications in the How-To. A 2.2 RS is pretty rare, most of them had 3.1s.

yup the 2.2 rs tach cluster was only in 91-93 cavis, if your car is a 92-94 tho you have to have a 92-93 cluster or you have to remove the abs light and when the abs and parking brake lights come on just the parking brake light comes on so get the 92-93 cluster, as well you need to install an oil pressure sending unit instead of the oil pressure switch otherwise the guage reads full oil pressure all the time and the swap is a diret drop in, now if anyone knows if i need to repin the harness to put a tach cluster in a 91 sunbird let me know lol
