I have a '92 Sunbird 2.0L OHC MPFI automatic, basically stock other than muffler and intake. The check engine light has been coming on intermittantly over the past few days, but no detectible problems until this morning. I after driving about 15 - 20 miles highway with no problems, the light came on again and the car started jerking badly and lacked power. I had to floor it just to keep it at 55. When i got into town, I had trouble getting it moving from a stop light, and even think I heard it backfire. It has plenty of gas, and the battery & alternator are fine. Plugs, wires, and fuel filter are less than a year old. After work it started and ran fine, and it hasn't died on me yet. I checked the code for the trouble light and it came back 19. Possible causes for a 19 are fuel pump circuit short, crank sensor, and intermittant 7x signal (whatever the hell that is). Can anyone help me figure this out? When I turn the key, I can hear the fuel pump kick on. I can't find any vacuum leaks. might it be the crank sensor, and if so, where is it located? Sorry this was a little wordy, just trying not to leave anything out. Thanks in advance, you all are always a big help.

I would say maybe the fuel pump relay or fuel pump. I started having the same trouble with mine and one day it started blowing the fuel pump fuse. I finally found out it was the fuel pump relay that went out and it kept blowing every fuse i would put in.
Thanks turbo, I'll that out after work. Is there a way to test the relay?

Anyone have any other suggestions?

there is no way of testing relays.

Well, I changed the relay, and it didn't help. Also fixed a vaccum leak I found in one of the little tubes going the the evap canister. Actually, the problem's getting worse. If I had fuel line freeze (it's been like 20 below with wind chill where I'm at), would it make sense that I can drive several miles before the car starts running badly? Was so bad this morning that I couldn't get it over 35 MPH even with the pedal floored.

i'd be lookin @ the CPS.. should be on the back of the block by the oil pressure sender and the knock sensor..
watch for flying sparks!!!
Well, it turns out it was ice in the gas. I feel kinda stupid, but in the 8 or 9 years I've had the car, I've never had that happen before. 2 Bottles of Iso-Heet and parking it in my friend's garage for 2 days seems to have straightened it out.
