they are the same tranny back in 85-86, the v6 got the muncie 4 speed. in 87, the 5 speed came out, and it was called a muncie 5 speed, then later (90 iirc) it became known as the muncie/getrag. its all the same tranny. basicly they are a muncie case (muncie is a gm brand) and getrag internals (a german company).

Maybe you're talking the difference between the Getrag/ Muncie and the NVG trans? They're both essentially the same too, but the Getrag/Muncie is probably the preferred trans because it has an external slave.

AFAIK Getrag/Muncie 5 speed is one trannie vs the Isusu Trannie

i read somewhere in 2000 Getrag came out with a much better version.

My 2000 Z's factory gear ratios are like 1.10 in 3rd, .81 in 4th, and .67 in 5th

If you're asking about the difference between the 1986-1990 "HM282 Muncie/Getrag" and the 1991-1994 "NVG-T550", there is none, save for hydraulics.

The 2002 and up Getrag transmission is a completely separate model.

the HM282 was in the 91 V6 Jbodies as well.. it also lived on in the quad 4 world.

I have a '93 Quad 4 Muncie with a V6 bellhousing from my 91 HM282 waiting on the LSD insert... It even says "Muncie" on the sticker

gear ratios are:
1st 3.50
2nd 2.05
3rd 1.38
4th 1.03
5th 0.81
Axle 3.94

I was asking because in my Chilton's manual it made it appear as if they were 2 different models.

Thank you for the clarification
