i have a 1994 base cavalier with just the speedo. i want to swap a speedo with the tach and all the guages. is this a direct swap,or is there a specific car i need to get one from?
thanks
todd
I know with my old sunbird i just swaped the cluster and nothing else and it worked, if not have a look at some wiring diagrams and it should tell you exactly what your missing to mae it work, but i'm 90% sure its plug and play.
also make sure its from the same or equivilant year
yeah.. but does the engine size matter. i have a 4cyl,and the cluster is coming from a z24, which probably has the v6. im checking with t he seller now to see what engine he has.
im not sure, depends how the cluster reads it, only one way to find out. It will work either way but if its set up that the cluster reads the ignition pulses then you will get a lower RPM reading than what its doing, alot lower. But i cant see them seting it up that way, again, check the wiring diagram, see what measures reference pulse in... should be the ecm so your ok.
I'm honestly not sure on a J-body, but on some GM-to-GM swaps, changing the number of cylinders WILL affect the tach reading. I've done a few Fiero swaps, and the first one that comes to mind was going from an I4 to a V6. All the stock I4 gauges worked just fine with the V6 ECU, save for the tach. If you have an I4, probably best to find an I4 optioned with a tach; shouldn't be too hard to find.
1989 Z24 Convertible - Dust Covered
2006 tC - Dust Covered, but driven more

you need a cluster from a 92-93 4cyl cavalier RS with the full guages option, same cluster as the Z24 but the tach will work right and the speedo only goes up to 160 km/h (100mph)
tyrin, what year was your sunbird, i was told i had to repin the back of the dash to make a tach cluster work in my 91 2.0 LE
