I need some help overhauling my 2.0 :(

Hey guys. Here recently, my car started knocking really bad. I took of the camshaft cover and seen that one of the lobes on my camshaft is seriously chewed up, and the clacking noise is coming from that area. Im guessing that its smacking on the follower because there so much slack there now, but if it's not, I guess I'll find out once I get the head off the engine. I also think I need to replace the valve stem seals because it smokes real bad after start-up, but clears up once its warm.
But anyways. I've got the intake and everything else off except the camshaft housing and the head. I just can't get the crankshaft pulley off without turning the engine over and I was wondering if there was any way to remove the big center bolt on the pulley without making the pulley rotate. All I have is your common tools, nothing like an impact wrench or stuff like that :/ Any other tips you all have is appreciated

When I changed my head I think I stck a large regular screwdriver in one of the holes on the pulley and used the head as a backstop. Then loosed the center bolt.

theres a place on the cam for a wrench to fit on.. it has a little hex pattern, use an open face wrench on it, and open face, or socket wrench on the cam pulley bolt, on mine i put the wrench on the cam and used an impact, but i know people who have done it with a socket wrench/ open face wrench

Got the head off. It was the camshaft that was clacking and stuff. It had grinded the follower/ rocker thingy flat.

This brings in my next question. Im looking at these parts online to get. They have a camshaft kit that has the camshaft lifters and followers. It's the part that the camshaft rolls on called a Follower or is it a Rocker??? They show rockers and followers for my engine, and I thought Rockers were on OHV engines?? I dont want to get the kits if they dont provide everything ya know...

same thing happened to my 90 turbo bird, but the main problem was that the oil hole going up to the head was plugged due to very infrequent oil changes. It took out bout 3 cam lobes (flat) ended up rebuilding engine.Debris got into the main/rod brngs, but ya know, that thing was still running right up to the day I pulled the eng ! pretty strong little bugger !---Jack

i was just dropping the kids off at the pool (lol) and browsing my repair manual and happened to read the part that would have answered this question which was jam the flywheel with a screwdriver...
