ok im lookin at buyin a 88 z24 2.8 mpi. now i has had every sensor and every possible thing on the motor replaced but the internals, and the fuel filter and pump, it has 136k. It has this problem, when you drive it down the road and put it to the floor it goes through the rpm range, sputters down in the rpms and then comes back, or dies out, but it will start up or take a couple of cranks. Ive heard this is a common thing so i was wondering if anyone has ever encountered this, or knows what the problem could be. thanks

Have you checked the fuel pressure ?
Try changing the fuel filter.
