Hi all. 94 auto, was working fine a week ago, now wont start.
Has spark, it cranks over, and backfires sometimes, but wont start now. Has a fully battery, and gas tank. Disconnected battery and connected it back up again. (had to do that before to reset the computer or something) It started up before after I did that but now its not. What should I be looking at?

What is it doing exactly when you try to start it?
sounds like you have dirty or faulty battery terminals
People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......
Is it getting fuel ?

Ok so exactly what happends is this
You turn the key in park and it turns over but doesnt start. SOMETIMES (rarely) it will spudder, but wont start.
It is getting spark and fuel. (you can hear the fuel pump hummmm).
Any other ideas?

oh and none of the fuses under the dash are blown.

Just hearing the fuel pump running doesn't necessarily mean that it is getting fuel to or through the injectors. You need to check the pressure at the schrader valve. If you have pressure than you need to get a noid light and check to make sure the injectors are working.

where is the schrader valve?

It will be by the pressure regulator. Looks like a smaller version of the ac service valves.

is it possible to push start an automatic cavalier? My cavalier doesnt have AC so it should be easy to find.

No. Current automatic transmission cars are not able to be push started.

I HAD A SIMILAR SOUNDING PROBLEM ON MY CAR. IT WOULD TURN AND TURN SOMETIMES SPUTTER, AS IF IT WAS PURPOSLY GIVING ME HOPE THAT IT WOULD START, ONLY TO KEEP ON SPUTTERING AND CHOKING UNTIL I KILLED THE BATTERY.
IN THE END I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE CRANK SENSOR AND THE IGNITION MODULETHAT I HAD TO CHANGE.
I HOPE THIS HELPS!!
Yeah. Crank Sensor did the trick for me.
