what can happen to the engine? i remember my dad saying not to drive too fast cuz it opens the throttle and i can bend a rod or a valve or something but i'm looking for specifics... i drove around the highway a few times and now its sounding like a @!#$ty lawnmower.. when i give it gas it sounds horrible.. anybody got any insight? this car may end up on sale for parts...

(1989 chevy cavalier 4 cylinder / 2.0 )

what happens with open header per say is that cold air rushes back up the pipe, thus changing the temp of the valves and schtuff so they bend.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

you cant bend valves from open exaust, the cold air rushing in will cause burned valves and seats. ilso this would be more from open manifold, if you had a downpipe on there is would likley be fine.

I ran mine for about 800 miles at 60-90 miles an hour straight the first time it broke the exhaust (just before the cat) it was loud as hell, but didn't do any damage to the engine...I was driving home from South Carolina on a Sunday and it broke on me...If your coils are being bad, check your grounds.
