Hey guys....Im building my motor up for more boost......I need to know if any company offers a multi layer steel or even copper headgasket for this car.
cometic, lordco can get, call jp @ abbotsford 604-850-1446 will run ya approx 200- 250. wanna race when your done
?
watch for flying sparks!!!
nice
i didnt think they made one for this car.....
thanx buddy.......
Oh p.s. sure lets race........
My car is almost 100% rebuilt
*engine, trans and turbo all rebuilt
*manual boost controlled running 18psi
*greddy type RS bov
*chipped, motor runs at 160 degrees now and revs to 9000rpm and has 3% more fuel above 5000 rpm
*new fuel system, walbro 340 fuel pump and new injectors.
*new wires, plugs, distributor and coil.
its got a small leak in the hg tho.....so im droppin the motor.....machining the block and head and installing a mls hg....with the intent on bringing the compression back to 8:1
see ya at mission. haha
9000 rpm?!?! What did you do to get it to NOT drop a valve before then, not to mention the rest of the engine holding together?
heh, id like to see a 2.0l do 9000rpm. i wouldnt even attempt it without stainless valves, titanium springs and retainers, aftermarket conecting rods and pistons, and oiling mods. even so, you would need a cam in it thats going to allow 9000rpm.
well i sure as hell wouldnt waste my time lieing to you guys ahah........Ive had the car up to 8000 and it could keep going. Im not just taking it way past its redline. its still producing power at 8000.
oh any btw......sharkey.....did i see your car at a langley shop? looked identical to yours........right now im driving my 1989 4runner so you would recognize me by my sunbird ......
you may have seen it at Mr transmission, thats were i work.
haha.......I work right by you man.....Im going to stop by sometime. in my car......I work for CJ heating on production way right across from you.
so we'll set up a race for the spring then jordan. 2.0 vs 2.2.
watch for flying sparks!!!
Not to thread jack... but im building a 2.0 as well... and i heard that its better just to go with an OEM replacement head gasket from like fel-pro rather than go cometic MLS... anyone know which one would be best?? thanks
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
most people say to go with the dawoo gasket for the best result, but the cometic will hold more boost and is reusable
fel pro head gasket is garbage for this motor.......it melts extremely easy. Im still waiting for my MLS cometic gasket ........but in order to find this gasket through cometic you need to search opel / vauxhaul
yea but i like the re-assurance that my gasket wont melt if it gets just a little bit warm.
yea, i looked.. its like $86.50 from cometic... one other thing.. it might sound kind of weird.. but would you even use gasket sealer on it? since its metal... i mean.. im really not sure on that, id think you would, but just making sure.. also... is it hard to o ring it?? how good is it to o ring it? also, would head studs be better than head bolts? thanks

You do understand that if the head gasket can't fail, something else has to? It's like a fuse in an electrical circuit. Sure, you can install a "blow proof" fuse, but something else will fail farther down the line.
And mine seems to be holding up ok, BTW.

i find you need about 4 or 5 good coats of the spray gasket sealer to get the thing to seal up properly. i found that once i installed a cometic gasket without the sealer, it pissed water out.
head studs are better than bolts. bolts put a lot of stress on the threads in the block when you wind them in, studs take the torque on their own threads, so you can put more toque on them and more evenly distribute the torque over the head.
Thanks for the tips sharkey.....
when it comes to the head gasket being like a fuse........sure thats true.......but with this engine......the headgasket is KNOWN for being terribly weak.
plus.....ide rather blow the whole car up and have a hell of a lot more fun.......rather than baby my car..........im planning on 20psi with water injection......already bought a $400 progressive boost controlled snow performance water injection kit to keep things cool.
haha......My skyline GTR never really worked out.......I had it imported.....with low mileage.....but the car looked like garbage once it arrived.....around that time I stumbled across a 1988 special edition Toyota 4runner.......I now own it along with my sunbird turbo. I never had the intention on giving up on my sunbird.....I love my car. I was getting frustrated with all the gasket problems I was having.......now ive got a MLS headgasket WOOT!
Im doing a complete rebuild right now.....Ive got clevitte 77 bearings for crank and connecting rods.....I need to know what kind of piston rings would be recommended for a high boost pressure application......the block is being bored just enough to clean the cylinder sidewall.....so ill need slightly oversized rings.
how far over is the block going??? you will need pistons and rings to match the overbore. if they are just giving it a light hone, then you dont need oversized rings or pistons, but i would be concerned with piston to wall clearance being loose with just honing an older motor like this.
