i just pulled a motor to transplant it, a1993 2.2 with 130k, before i put it in, i was going to chage the water pump, i was also considering the timing chain, is it worth doing how much of a pain is it, going to be my sons first car, anything thing else i should do before i put this motor in, no hurry he wont be driving for another few months
thanx
tom
its not that bad, im doin it right now on my 94 2.2, i didint even have to pull the motor mount like ive read.
While its out i'd throw a new oil pump in it..
The timing chain in the 2.2 sometimes suffers from improper lubrication if the engine wasn't maintained properly. There's a small hole in the oil passage behind the cam gear which allows oil to drip onto the gear and if this is plugged, the chain won't get enough oil. If the engine ran well and didn't make any unusual tapping or rapping noises, I'd probably leave the chain alone. But if I found metal in the oil or if the car made funny sounds I'd probably at least look at the chain.
-->Slow
Well the chain snapped, one of the guides broke off and got caught in the chain and wammo.
heres a pic of it almost all together, well first the carnage
after
Lol! Mine did that too. But it took out all the valves pushrods and the dowel pin on the cam.
When in doupt, grub.
If you've got the engine out, why the heck not?
Oh, and +1 on replacing the oil pump.
