well my problem started when it rained here in memphis and the streets got flooded real bad, i was picking my ma up from work when i went into and back out of a knee high puddle. the car died after i made it through but it cranked back up after i got it pushed home and charged the battery. when it cranked it smelt like raw fuel and my fuel gauge is reading rich, and the car shuts down sumtimes after i come to a stop if i dont hold my foot on the gas and brake. oh yea my car is a 88z24 3.1l v6. can anybody tell me wat they think is wrong. thanx alot

speed is only for those who use it, smoke or get smoked!!!
it's gonna be 1 of 3 things,
the TCC, the TPS, or the IAC... i would need to know... if sitting in park, or nuetral with it at idle, does your idle seem fine & then all of a sudden start going up & down & may even die or seem like it wants to die & then picks right back up if it doesn't die, that would be the TPS... or is the dying problem only when you stop after cruising for a while.... that would be the TCC & if it dies does it start right back up but you may have to keep it running till it smooths out?which i believe is the TPS or the IAC..

ok lets say im cruising and come to a stop light it would idle down then way up and act like its going to die out, it goes from 700 rpms to 1200 rpms then to 400 rpms and back through that same pattern some times it would die sumtimes it doesnt, but if i hold my foot on the brake and just pat the gas a little and take my foot off it idles normal no stubbling or nuthing until i go and stop again. and it does this at low and high speed. its not the tcc i unhookd that and it did the same thing.

then it is either the TPS or the IAC
I would tend to lean towards the TPS
I know, mine is doing the exact same thing, I have both a TPS & a IAC comming from a guy on V6Z24.com, he can get them at the junk yards all the time he says, but if you have a favorite wrecker you like to go to, find them there if they have not been taken off yet.... I am changing both mine out at the same time & installing a WAI at the same time....
thats why i got mine from the guy on V6Z24.com, he had a WAI for a good price & got me the TPS & IAC also... all from a 3.1 shipped to me for 65, the TPS is 50 to 60 at autozone or orielley's or napa & the IAC is the same price, & my local wreckers (a pull yourself type of place) has been picked clean of them.
so replace the TPS & see if that fixes it, if not then it's the IAC, or replace them both at the same time & it should be fixed

just because you unplugged the TCC doesnt mean that it is still not stuck engaged
unplugging it wont necessarily unstick it
this would be a mechanical issue not an electrical one, RE the TCC issues in these and other cars
it sounds like the TCC is stuck to me
dying or almost dying when coming to a stop in gear
TCC
now if it was irregularly idling or surging in park or neutral then id say the fuel pressure regulator or IAC yes
when it got wet from the water flooding and was gas smelling id have to say that the coil packs got drowned and the injectors were pumping fuel but you couldnt get the spark due to the wet coils
so theres your fuel smell
good luck

blkspyder88..... I didnt know there was any of us in the Memphis area here, I am down here in southaven. Anyways back on topic, I have had the same issue in the past with my cay and it was the tps. They seem to not like water, if you continue to have problems hit me up and I may be able to help.
its prob the IAC. but first try the idle reset.
