i have a question about axles hopefully someone can answer. im doing a swap and i need to know about axles. i want to use the new axles but will i have issues at the hub? does it matter what axle im using pretty much my question.
what kind of swap, just stock axles or high performance?
We need to know what axles you want to know about. Theres a bunch of axles that have the same spline count and diameter on the hub end, but the shaft length and inner CV are different. All of which can be overcome by swapping CVs and shafts.
So, yes, it does matter which axle you use. What kind of swap are you doing? Engine? Trans?
the outer splines accually are the same i think. i dropping in the l67 s/c with the 4t65e hd.
If you're using the axle as it came from the factory, its different. They're bigger diameter. You can swap the outer CV, or you can swap the spindle to the H body spindle, but you would have to change your wheel bolt pattern.
so keep the h body inner and swap out the outers for the j body? and i should be golden?
here are the specs
60-1255 - compressed length is 24 1/2
inner spline count is 39
outer spline count is 33
thread pitch is M27 X 2.0
60-1255 - compressed length is 21 7/8
inner spline count is 34
outer spline count is 33
thread pitch is M27 X 2.0
The part numbers for the 1994 sunbird are R/F 60-1055, L/F 60-1122.
60-1055 - compressed length is 24 11/16
inner spline count is 34
outer spline count is 33
thread pitch is M20 X 1.5
60-1122 - compressed length is 20 11/16
inner spline count is 34
outer spline count is 33
thread pitch is M20 X 1.5
See how the thread pitch listing is M27 for the 4T65e, and the thread is M20 on the 3T40? That number is the diameter of the shaft in MM that goes through the bearing. So even though the spline count is the same, the diameter is bigger, so it won't fit. You can swap the outer CV from a 5 spd MG2 axle onto the 4T65e shaft. There is an axle shaft interchange download in the Suspension FAQ on V6Z24.com yo should check out. That will also give you shaft diameters.

what if i just changed out the knuckle and hub for a gtp knuckle and hub?? would that work? or would i have issues with the ball joints and struts then??? but even if i did have issues with the ball joint and strut or whatever may arise , would the knuckle and hub from the gtp theoretically work?????
after reading the front end swap thread on this site it all seems clear. question is now are the thread pitch the same on the gtp and the malibu
Which thread pitch? On the lug studs? Or the axle shaft?
I got your email, I just haven't replied yet.
yea sorry . im talking about the axle pitch thread. im going to do some front end parts swapping so ill end up having an n knuckle off a 2000 malibu.. and the tranny from a 1999 gtp. this is what cardone sent me . The malibu is 24 X 2.0 M, the pontiac gtp is 27 X 2.0 M. so yea 27 and 24 are different #'s lol but if i take the outer from the malibu and the inner from the gtp i should be all set up then??? do i need to be concerned about the length of the axles or should they pretty much be cool?
Go to the V6Z24.com Suspension forum FAQ and download the axle info at the bottom. It has all the lengths, diameters, spline counts, etc, etc, etc
apparently after talking to my buddy at the local shop , its not going to happen and custom axles are the prescription. so ill be taking measurements as soon as this rain stops on the east coast.
