new here, i just bought a '92 Sunbird 3.1, 5-speed..I bought the car as a beater to get back and fourth to work, but after screwing around in it so far the car has owned the following: (remember this is a BONE stock 3.1 144,000 miles)
1.) 3.1 beretta (bus length)
2.) 1999 5.9 Cummins Ram2500 (two stacked chips 300rwhp) close race
3.) 2001 Crown Vic (ex cop car) 5+cars
4.) 1999 Civic Si...VEE-TEEECK bus length
5.) 2000Sunfire GT aloso 5+cars
so through curiosity, i had to take this thing to the track (mainly because the fastest 3.1 i've seen was 16.3) First pass was a decent launch hit all the gears but i was modest with rpm's pulls a 15.66@86.20mph....the second and final pass was a great launch, i shifted around 5600rpms with no lift shifts, and pulled a 15.54@87.01mph
I'm not bragging, nor am i proud of this car, i have a 10.50 S-10(sbc) i bracket race, so i don't think this car is fast either, i'm just wanting to know if i have a "factory freak" on my hands...whats the fastest factory 3.1 quarter mile times that you fellas have heard??? i figured this would be the forum to ask..thanks
-keith
fastest was like 750 top speed !!!!!!!!! but that was on a cargo plane haha . got warp speed??
Looks like somebody got pwned for talking street racing...

If this car is truly bone stock that is extremely impressive. I have nearly 1000 1/4 mile passes on mine, and the best it ever managed bone stock was 15.79 (don't remember mph). It was a consistent 15.9-16.0 car. With only a HyperTech ThermoMaster it managed 15.41, and was a consistent 15.5-15.6 bracket car. I know it was stock because I am the only owner ever. I suspect that your car might have a chip in it, exhaust, or something else non-stock that you are unaware of. Hell, I had people yell BS with my 15.79 time. It was just a day with perfect air, a slight tail wind, and I accidentally launched it perfectly (2.14 60 ft on original factory tires). If the car is stock, congrats!

my BONE STOCK 300,000km 1993 cavalier, full interior (with spare tire and all), original 3.1, 5spd with a bum@!#$y clutch went 15.3@88MPH on 205/55/16 third gen wheels and rims (street tires, actually Cooper trendsetters, that were worn down to 2/32's tread), backed up again right after.

I have to agree with Chris here, and I'm not trying to be a jerk. I believe the times, especially based on the 60 ft, but I have a really hard time believing that the car was completely stock. Especially since it had 16" wheels to turn, and a bad clutch. To get times like this in a stock car it would take perfect weather and track conditions, a strong tailwind, and a ton of luck. The weather and track altitude do make a bid difference too. Unless you have owned it since day 1, you may not be aware of mods that were done to the car by a previous owner. Even if it's mildly modified, you should be happy with those numbers though.

oh ok so i'm fibbing a bit, i took the stock muffler off, put some straight through cheap POS on there joining with 1 7/8" flex pipe, did a full tune up to the car (plugs wires, SEA FOAM, 3wire o2 sensor, running 0w30 synthetic oil, synthetic trans fluid). Thats the only mods to the car
I havent owned it since 'new' however i've been working on vehicles long enough to know if somethings been tampered with or modified
This ol' girl is stock...
However ya got me, the track was perfect conditions, and they let me in the groove so launching was good. There were a few other locals there as well as witness's
And i doubt i have the fastest 'bone stock' 2nd gen around. And i am happy with those times! I tried making a pass with my 15" tires and ended up spinning to the 330' marker and turning a 16.4 LOL
