Hey all, I have purchased a T3 turbocharger from a local salvage yard that is still in good shape. I pulled it from an '82 volvo 240 turbo. It is vacuum regulated from the inlet side of the turbocharger so there are no electronics to worry about. It is rated to open the wastegate at 6.8-7.7psi boost.
I was wondering what i need to do to get this working on my '86 sunbird turbo with the 1.8. I know I have to get the oil lines to match and the exhaust manifold to line up with the turbo mounting bolts, but beyond that I am not too much for computers and I know the stock turbo is solenoid operated to open the wastegate between 8-9 psi. I was just wondering if there were any computer bugs I'd have to work out if I left the turbo manually vacuum operated. I was also wondering what kind of boost the engine could tolerate. I am planning on getting a manual turbo boost controller. Probably eventually upgrade to an electrical one but for now settle for that.
Anyway, any thoughts anyone might have would be appreciated.
