Just bought one, needs top & engine but body & interior are perfect.

Hope to document everything.

Neat deal and look forward to seeing things as a now and after. You have a hard to find car being I like seen none and def none in the junkyards when I go looking for parts and I do it alot.
Well I see it needs some tlc for sure. You can get some new molded carpet for a fair price just have to cut to fit.I got some from ACC out of arizona being ur from there.Cost was 115.00 for a accord I did for my nephew.Anyway I see your missing the pocket with tray pull out and piece below radio is that missing.I might could get one here if the 88 is still in the junkyard idk right now.Anyway good pics and that duct tape top ouch.
Rust free...and in pretty decent shape. Looks like a good start.
Gotta ask, did the wheels come with the car? They set it off quite nicely...

They did come with car, brand new tires too.
It's a really good starting point even with putting engine in( or rebuilding) $500.00 for the car as she sits got her home & found receipt for rims & tires in glovebox for $900 and only 2k miles on them.
I gotta sell the 89 prelude in the garage(needs head rebuilt) then I can back z24 in & get to work.
I see inexpensive tops on eBay for under $300, any thoughts on doing myself vs professional and different types of tops? All advice appreciated.

I say do it yourself, (tabs) did a write up on doing it, and even though it's for 3rd gens, it should be the same basic concept. When I worked on mine, it was defiantly time consuming, but not very difficult.
I like the car, it is a good start. I look forward to progress
If the engine needs work, drop a 3400 or 3500 in it. Very simple swap and the reward is amazing.
On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.

3500? Hmm off to find the how-to on that one, gotta keep it sorta simple, doing in my garage, & daughter is eager to drive it.
I think the 3400 is a pretty easy swap the 3500 needs some wiring iirc, not sure.
http://60degreev6.com is a great site full of tons of info on the v6. On a side note my Dad had a Sunbird convertible with white top and white duct tape, I too like those rims. I wanna find a similar year z and fix her up

Thanks Andrew for the tip, I been on that site a good bit over the last couple days, I think I'm Gemma seek out one of the McLaren engines to put in the z24.
I'm a muscle car NUTT so doing a fwd v6 is a new realm for me, but I think I can handle the challenge especially with all you guys help.
Andrew, what part of the world are you in? I can keep a look out for you.
I had a top place do my top. It is not fun. You may need new tack strips, All new weatherstrip, Cables, ect.... And get the new top with a glass rear window if pos.
I remember seeing a nice white vert top at a local yard down the road from me in (Central Wisconsin). I will go have a closer look at it this week and take pics! There is also a 88 Z24 vert at the yard by me as well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=eTzuSF8Lph0 Not that you need to fix or remove your exterior window sweeps but,I made two vids about them.So for reference or how to this should be helpful I hope. Also to my knowledge there are no new nos sweeps made for any 1st gens and not any for the 88/89 some of the later 90s stuff are still around tho.Enjoy I think.
3500 Swap how-to

If your going to swap the engine I would definitely go for the 3500. Isn't much more work then a 3400.
You should really join v6z24.com as they have a lot of info for 2nd gens as that is what that site specializes in.

The engine for the car made it home today, it's out of an 89 turbo gprix. I pulled it today.
Im in Iowa. I think you could do the top end swap from the 3500 on your turbo 3.1 and see some nice gains . Nice and rare engine, pretty nice tech for the day. 210 hp iirc. Nice project. There was a 91 z-24 coupe locally that a guy had put a ton of money into and stereo equipment only had 15000 miles but he wants $8,000 for it.
