ABS on 1988 Cimarron?
Monday, March 06, 2006 11:51 AM
Perhaps it was just a typo, but one online site claims that the 1988 Cadillac Cimarron was equipped with Teves antilock brakes. I suppose it was a copy-and-paste negligence as I can find neither another mention of it online, nor ABS equipment on my 1988 Cimarron. Can anyone here confirm or deny this statement?

Yes, I've had a 1987, 1990, and 1992 Cavalier, and only the '92 had ABS. But this is a Cadillac, and as such it came standard with a lot of equipment that was never even available on a Cavalier. As such, I haven't yet dismissed it as a total impossibility, but I do consider it questionable as I would figure this feature would be advertised somewhere on the car's body, on the brake pedal, under the hood, or at least somewhere else on the Internet.

I know the Teves II system was available in 1987.
I assume there was a Teves I system before that....

Our '89 Corsica had ABS.

The TEVES system doesn't look like your normal ABS system (with the module hanging off the MC). That may be why it doesn't look like it has it.

It was probably an option on the car. Run the VIN by your dealer and see what options came on it from the factory.

I had a Bonne with the Teves II. It was hiding down in the engine bay. You could barely see it, and if you didn't know it was there it would be easy to miss.

The owner's manual says nothing about antilock brakes, and the RPO codes aren't saying anything about it either. I think it was a copy-and-paste negligence. Isn't there a word for that?

ABS became standard equipment in 1992, on all J-car models.

I can't confirm or deny it, but it MIGHT have been an option on the earlier cars. It certainly wasn't the norm, I've never seen one.

that's how i remember it, I had a 91 J-car it did not have it, however dad's 92 did.

the best way was already stated, run the VIN at a Cadillac dealer
