Hey I'm gonna attempt the good old painting of the calipers and drums this weekend. I was wondering if I can get some help though. Around here everyone just pretty much cleans, primes, then paints. But they come out all rough and nasty. I have some painting experience on the interior, but the outside and metal parts frighten me.
Take drums off, I'm leaving the calipers on to paint. wire brush or grind as much as needed. scrub with a green pad or sand it till I get it down. Can I wet sand like I would on fiberglass? What kind of primer? And then just a few coats of engine enamel or regular high heat paint. Thanks in advance for the help. Also do you think it's worth it to grind off the numbers and crap before painting it.

I'm actually in the process of (re)painting my calibers and painting my drums. I simply use this stuff they sell at a home depot near me, it comes with brake cleaner, paint and the paint brush. I'm painting them while they're on the car, I couldn't care less for finish... besides unless you're super close to the car you won't notice the difference anyway.

i did mine...i cleaned them and wirebrushed off the dust. then primed it and then i used VHT's Caliper Spray paint in which you can get in most auto stores. Came out great i think and my friends seemed to like it to
Any caliper or engine paint will work fine. Just make sure you get something thats mean to take some heat. 50% of a good paint job is prep (cleaning and such), the other 50% is keeping the wet-edge.
Hit it all with a wire brush. Maybe some sandpaper. ( I didnt ) And then use Lacquer thinner to clean them off with. After that I just went straight with high temp enamel, no primer and it turned out great looking.
