Hey all, I have a lowering question. I have an 04 LS Sport and the 205/55/16's look to be close to flush with the outside of the front fender. Considering that I run 225/45/17's in the summer, how can I lower my car and not have rub? Is fender rolling pretty much a given? Or are my eyes playing tricks on me and they are really tucking under (doubtful). Thanks!

What is the offset of the rims?
42mm...but it doesn't even look like I can lower with stock without rolling the fenders.

you can lower your car up to 2" w/o having a problem. any lower and you will probably have to roll the fenders

yes if you have the right tire size then the overall diameter is still the same so you can lower it about 2" before your tires start to rub. you can probably go a little farther but im not sure

Another question. I only want to lower by about 1.2" (suspension techniques springs, probably) and I know that lowering on stock struts is just asking for trouble. However, since the drop will only be 1.2", would the KYB GR-2's handle this alright? I know that they are OEM replacements but they will still warranty their product if the drop is 1.5" or less. I would like a bit better performance, but I'm really only planning on lowering to help reduce fender well gap, nothing more. Thanks.

I've been told that GR-2's aren't good for lowering, I have Eibach Pro Kit springs. 1.4" drop give or take, with KYB AGX struts and I love it, they're adjustable and will make your lowered car ride almost like stock if not better.
there not meant for lowering. even if they are warrentied up to 1.5" drop they still shouldnt be dropped on. lets say you did buy the gr-2s anyway. say they blow cuz you lowered on them. yes kyb will give you new ones but then you have to pay to get your car realigned again and if they blow again, you have to pay again. just settle w/ the agxs
I paid 450 with shipping from Summit Racing for my KYB AGX's, not a bad deal in my book for quality struts.

the main problem with stock struts or OEM replacements when going to lowering springs is they are not valved to handle the spring rate of aftermarket springs. its not so much the lowering parts as much as the rate. the bounce that people talk about comes from that. the GR2's on Sus Tech springs work not to bad. the Sus Tech don't have a radical rate of spring. more then stock but not as much as say Eibach or Sprint. i agre though that the AGX's are a better route or if you got the dough then get either the Koni yellows or Tokico D-Spec. Tein is another route if you got over a grand.
Your problem with the tire looking to be flush with the fender at stock ride height....its not a trick, its really like that. But with the way the suspension works, once you get it lowered the tire will sit inside the fender. Make any sense?
