ok, are the studs that come out of the top of the strut tower just studs or are they bolts?
these..

I thought they were just studs and could be turned out to put longer ones in... like these..

or do they unbolt from under in the wheel well?

no they are studs you can use bolts from the bottom and a bolt it in you need to drill out the stripped stud and get a longer nut and bolt or get new strut mounts

well, not exactly wrong, I did have to cut off the existing stud, drill it a tad, then use a punch pin to get the old stud out, then put in a threaded retaining clip, and run the bolts in from the top instead of using nuts...

I stripped mine out too (with a torque wrench!!) I pounded out the stud, stuck a bolt in there and put a litttle weld bead on it to hold it steady. worked great.
