Summit has progress rear sway bars on clearance.
Thursday, July 20, 2006 3:38 PM
I just thought I would pass along the good word. The other night I was looking through the clearance section on summitracing.com and found that they have clearanced the Progress Rear Sway bars for 3rd gen jbodies. They are only $78.50 so I ordered one up for myself. The addco or eibach rear bar may, may be slightly nicer, but I haven't compared the 3 - so I'm talking out of my ass. But for under $90 after shipping and handling though, I thought this is something a lot of you guys might like to see.

Part number I ordered is TPG-62-0401 might make it easier to pn search it than to look through the 10 pages of clearance.

Boner the turbo is back off again, I'm just not going to get the reliability, and daily drivability without throwing tons of cash at it. So for now I'm back to the full bolt on n/a set up.

I just got my Progress bar today. I have to say that it seems like a really good piece. I can't wait to get it installed tomorrow morning and take her out for some "testing".

are people still having the problem bearsfan had with the ebrake cable getting chewed through?

Would you care to elaborate any further Event? It does seem like the mounting hardware comes close to the cable. I'm not having any rub issues though.

I got this thing on earlier and it rocks, definately flattened the car out a lot, and got rid of the tendency to oversteer almost completely. Which is just what I was looking for, now I just need to order my strut and spring combo and the Cavy will be out handling the Beretta.

Ok,
Now i have to get this bar for real.

kflo, I see ou have a 99z like me, so I'm gonna have to give it a go.
Granted, if I decide not to keep it, I'll have sme nice holes in my axle.

As far as bolt on suspension mods go, nothing make more of an impact on a front driver than a big ole rear sway bar.

Even if you don't like it, just consider the drilled holes as weigh reduction!

most swaybars use a u bar mounting the swaybar underneath the beam. apparently the progressive mounts to the back slope of the trailing beam. bears fan had it on for a good while, but later posted pictures where the ebrake cable, for those that will use it, had rubbed through completely since the bars mounting was on the same plane as the ebrake cable.

the progressive is still a 22mm if i remember right. big bars are addco at 25.4mm. 3.4mm, not much, but once you go from a 19mm, to a 22mm, and then to a 25.4...... noticable difference

Okay, I see what you mean Event. I ended up modifiying the ebrake brackets a bit with the BFH for clearance. They were rubbing somewhat, but I got a bit of clearance with my efforts, so hopefully it hangs in there. If not maybe I'll invest in some small kevlar sheaths or something...

As for the size, yeah the progress is a 22mm. But for $78.50 I couldn't pass it up. Iirc the rear sway bar on my beretta is a 22mm also, the beretta is also a bit more of a boat, but the 22mm piggy backed on the factory 17mm keeps it's fatass in check pretty well.

I really wish there was an edit button on here... I feel dumb posting twice like this. But I like the way the progress bar mounts, it's a really tight fit with the axle. I'm not saying that is better than the V bolt style of the addco, but it seems to be a bit more direct I guess is the word I'm looking for. I also like the way it mouts to the bottom strut bolts, does the addco mount similarly at the struts?

I've got a camera and a server, but I lost my camera uploading software, and my photo editing software when I reformatted my hd. So I can get some pics up sometime hopefully.

factory 17? no 3rd gen has ever come with a factory swaybar...

anti-roll/swaybars arent the same as the small bar in the trailing arm.
