until a day or two ago my brakes were fine and yesterday when i started driving i went to push down the brake pedal and i thought my brakes went out until i realized that i had to push it almost to the ground before the brakes actually went into affect and while i was pressing the brake pedal until they went into affect there was a weird grinding noise, does anyone know what could be wrong or how i could fix it????

check you brake fluid first.

Does it pull one way or another? If it pulls under hard braking it's possible you blew a line.

Your brake pads are most likely gone if they were grinding. If you leave this problem to long you might need new rotors and/or drums. But you most likely need new brake pads.

Might also wanna check brake fluid and get the lines bled.

I'm going on the assumption that if the brakes were all good yesterday, and terrible today, that something other than normal wear has occured between now and then. A little grinding on one pad is not going to significantly decrease braking ability or pedal travel.
