Hi all.
I have a 2001 Z24 that has begun to make some noises in the front end. Specifically, I hear a creeking type of noise from the right front when driving over bumps. I had a mechanic look over the car and he advised the strut and strut bearing should be replaced. Since this is an expensive job, and the car still rides fine for me, I was wonderig if anyone knows of a way to quiet this noise with some kind of grease or spray. Perhaps someone has encountered this problem already. Thanks.
only way to cure it is to repair it.... Im on the same boat as u right now. Ive been riding around on eibach sportlines driving on them with borrowed time u could say till I could afford new struts and strut mounts. I wouldnt advise driving around on them as much as possible since mine are bad to the point were i can hold the steering wheel straight and drive straight then hit the gas and my car will change lanes on its own. theres a lot of play in my front right wheel right now which im gonna be ordering new struts soon. I just need a lil more money to pick them up
I think it's probably your J-Body, you should remove it as soon as you can!
j/k, actually not really.
Try jacking up the front and spraying some WD40 at the mounts from below.
Take a look at the swaybar bushings...
Porter92, try spraying you sway bar beushings, sway bar end links, and control arm bushings with a silicone lubricant spray. That sounds like the rubber bushings are squeeking. If you have the polyurethane bushing, it's even more likely. There is also an aerosol lithium spray lubricant (a lithium grease in aerosol form) that can help if its the strut bearings.
BradSk88, I don't reccomend WD-40 on plastics or rubber, it can possibly attack them, causing them to soften too much.
Z Speed Cavi, your problem sounds more like either the wheel bearings or tie rod end links. Jack the front up and grab the tire at the top and bottom and try to rock it back and forth, if you can it's the wheel bearings. To check the end links, grab the tire from the sides and look at the end links to see if there is any play, if there is replace them.
Never tried it, but I remember a GM tech telling me that was all they did when people came in for warantee.
when i went in for a alingment they said it was my strut mount that was bad? Im converting to N-body front brake swap and have new bearings coming. when the guy was doing the alingment tho he did grab the top and both of the wheel and pushed it did rock
