hey guys, i plan to do the IRS swap and also wanted to install the granava coil overs and shocks/struts. problem is i dont think the rears will work with the IRS swap. I also check gravana's site and they dont make a coilover setup for the N-body.
Any ideas or will it work?? I want to do the IRS swap and use the cavalier gravana coil over setup. what stops everyone from using the stock rear J-body struts when using the N rear setuP?

It won't work without some serious modification.
The rear struts on a J-body are a single bolt... thru the axle. It's setup like a traditional shock absorber (but with a perch half-way up the damper body, which the spring sits on).
On the N-body, the rear strut looks just like the front J-body ones look... with an aluminum knuckle which the brakes and hub bolt to... and two bolts on the top of the knuckle where the strut bolts to.
The J-body rear strut is way longer than the N-body strut. In theory... if you could fab up something to hold the rear strut to the N-body knuckle... it could work... but you want to make sure it's going to hold... not just some hack job. After all, your car rides on that... if it fails at high speed, you're pretty much toast.
N-body cars have worse aftermarket than J-cars... if you can imagine it. (I actually think it's pretty good... but lots of people whine about the J-body aftermarket... for whatever reason...)

The J after market is awesome compared to the N market, luckily the N parts can commonly be cobbled together from other cars. Like the Taurus rear Koni's fitting the N body. As for the Gravana system, you're pretty much SOL.
All this has been covered before, and is in the IRS thread. A setup for a Ford Taurus would work,
probably.
A J front strut will not bolt up a a N rear knuckle (without quire a bit of modification and/or fabrication).
ok so is there any rear coil over that will work or am i SOL? the tarus konis are struts not coilovers correct?

Ground Control makes a kit for the Taurus, would
probably work. Could cobble together something from GC with J fronts and SHO rears. GC Product number 4050 is the complete kit for the SHO.
