YouTube Wilwood problem video
Refer to this vid for examples, but yeah this is what I'm hearing. I can't feel it in the wheel nor the pedal, and it gets louder the harder I press the brake. But otherwise, the car brakes just fine. I could just be a newb to this and this is a regular result of the install until they get warn in a little, but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem.

u sure thats engine knock? it could be the power brake pump straibning
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
I forgot to mention that it sounds to me like its coming directly from the drivers side rotor, and I just installed this kit 2 days ago. I'm thinking its just the slotted rotors and the new pads saying hi to each other for the first time.
-- John
With regular BAER slotted and drilled rotors with the hawk pads i never got a such noise... I don't think thats normal...
check the wheel make sure its tight , make sure there is caliper clearence
then pull the wheels , put the lug nuts back on , both sides and see if you can dupilcate the noise
check the caliper to rotor clearence , and rotor to knucle clearence
Well it seems my suspicions were correct and that they just needed to be warn in a little, because I took it out tonight and beat on them pretty hard. No more knocking, and I got a good idea of what the Wilwoods are capable of.
Here's another vid I took tonight, I think it was still slightly knocking in this one, but by the end of the night it wasn't doing it at all anymore. (btw I don't think the audio and video are in sync)
Wilwood 60-0 brake test
-- John
none of the 3 sets ive installed knocked at all
so im guessing someything needed to clearence it self
kinda sounds like the edge of the pads are hitting the slots after the pads are compressed.
WOW! that stopped fast, thats insane
John, I've heard a similar brake noise from J's due to worn guides on the knuckles causing pads to move under braking. This certainly would not be the case with the Wilwoods. Be VERY sure that your caliper mounting bolts are tight and that the pads are properly installed! The only other time I've heard this noise was from a vehicle that had the caliper bolts left loose and the bottom one came out!! Not tyin' to scare ya, just want you to be safe, losing brakes when you need 'em is no fun at all! By the way, the Wilwoods look awsome on your car!!
^ they're tight to specs.

sounds familar to what my car sounded like after the rotors were heated up and didnt have the caliper clearanced properly

Hey all, its been a week and I'm back again with another minor problem. They squeek very loud under light braking. Again, not sure if its just a new brake thing, but figured what the hell, kinda a progress thread on the install. Other than this, the brakes work fine.
YouTube vid of squeeking
I'm honestly a little disappointed in the brakes under daily driving conditions, I say its more of a night and dawn difference rather than a night and day. The only real major difference is under the extreme braking, where the stock brakes would have been fading out and I would start bracing for impact, the Wilwoods seem to clamp harder and I feel I am complete control of where the car is going to stop. But under regular stop and go traffic conditions, it just doesn't stop on a dime like I was expecting.

ever figure anything out john? i drove my car over the weekend and i developed the same problem

Yeah, mine did the same thing after I beeded in the pads. I have read in different forums that it is a common problem with Wilwoods and they put shims in to quiet them down. I am thinking about trying that or putting a set of EBC pads in.
Something I noticed lately is the pedal has gotton softer, and if I brake real hard that one of the calipers is grabbing before the other. So I am going to rebleed the brakes next time I get a chance

wheres my boost??
I got the same situation as yours with my first car. My friend did something that stopped the noise. But, he didn’t tell me what it is even until today. He just said it’s something about brake pads and dust shield… I’m thankful right now with my
Volvo brake dust shields. It didn’t give me a single problem since I bought this car last year.
