how to disconnect abs?

well it seems that my abs is messed up so i wanna disconnect it,it seems to work better when the light is on,unless someone knows why when it is operational that it wobbles and feels like warped rotors but when the light is on it works perfect ,you know execpt the abs dosnt kick in(hopefully this makes sense)

no it makes no sense whatsoever....take it to a shop and have them scan the code for the abs problem



My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.

When ABS is doing its job is will feel like a grinding vibration in the brake pedal, liek the brakes are made out of rocks, THAT IS NORMAL, every car does it, thats part of the design/function. When your ABS light is on your ABS is not working, which is why it doesn't feel like that.

But if you really want to disble it just pull the ABS fuse, the light will stay on all the time but the ABS will not function.

To disconnect your ABS you will need to do some pumbing on the brake lines. First take the F & R output of the MC out of the ABS unit and then the 4 FL,FR,RL,RR out of the ABS unit. The abs unit is diagonally proportioned, where the MC is F & R only. So no get rid of the ABS unit and then connect the RL & RR together and then connect them to the R of the MC and the same for the front brakes. FL & FR plumed together, then connected to the F at the MC. Its pretty simple if you have the tools.
Let me know if you need brake plumbing parts, I can get XRP stuff at almost cost.

^^^ that would be a complete waste of time unless your doing it tyring to save weight pull the fuse, disconect the module, unplug the speed sensors, ect... it stops working..... its that simple. there is no reason to run all the brake lines, ABS does not make the brake work, all it does it keep the wheels form locking up. Disabling your ABS will have ABSOLUTELY NO AFFECT WHAT-SO-EVER on regular breaking. the only difference is the light in the dash will be on and if the brakes will lock up if you put them to hard to floor. There is no logical reason to rerun all the lines and replace the master.

So you could still say your car HAS them for insurance purposes.

So you could turn them back on in the future, ESPECIALLY if the car is ever to be sold.

Because it's not necessary to REMOVE something if all you need is for it to be DISABLED.

Dude, that's a bad way to do things.. just unhook it when the light is on and then forget about it.

Take it somewhere and have them read the codes so you know what is wrong, it could be something as simple as a dirty wheel speed sensor.

This is on a 92 Z, not a 3rd gen. Pulling the fuse will also cut power to the blower motor. The best way to disable 2nd gen ABS is to disconnect the ABS relay while the car is off (disconnecting it well running will set a code and turn on the light). Leave it unplugged, but don't remove the relay. If you disconnect the battery, you will need to plug the realy back in to reset the light, and then disconnect it again.

Re-plumbing isn't necessary on 2nd gens, since the ABS unit only affects braking when the ABS comes on. Besides, re-plumbing and using a non ABS MC will require re-flaring all the lines to a metric bubble, which is a PITA.

But, like I said on V6Z24.com, get the code read and find out what the actual problem is. Most likely its a sensor.

Umm...what happens when you get into an accident and your insurance company finds out you disconnected your ABS? You would immediately go onto the high risk insurance list and most likely be dropped from your current carrier and would pay out the nose for insurance from then on for several years. Don't lie to insurance companies, they made non-ABS J's, if you take it off/disable it you should call and let your ins. com. know about it.

yes, but why not remove it when you dont want it? If you want it off your obviously a very eccentric driver("go fast and dont let a comp. tell me how to drive") or racing in autocross events, in either case you would want to reduce weight.

If you take it out your right, its not pointless its required. Also, its not really alot of work were talking about here, a flare tool, 2' of line and fittings with about 30min worth of work. Its not like you have to replumb the whole car, which actually again, isn't that much work either.
