my e brake won't engage you van pull it and it is like the gears are stripped out it don't click at all and you have to pull it all the way back to get it to work at all. I was told to tighten the cable but i think that won't work any way to get it fixed before i roll down a hill warming it up thanks

It's self-adjusting... there isn't a way to tighten it manually, short of pulling off the drums and setting the star wheel tighter. I've heard mixed opinions on this, but I've always had luck with it.... drive in reverse.... slam on the brakes... ta da, rear brakes adjusted (the drums, that is). Then, to tighten up the e-brake, yank it up and down a few times til it's tight. Worked for me every time.

There's one issue I do know about... there's a "pawl spring" in the e-brake handle assembly, that sometimes pops out of place. If it's not in place, the self-adjusting part won't work, and the e-brake will never adjust properly. Might wanna check that. I've never really looked for it, as mine has always worked well enough on it's own. One day, I'll figure that bit out...
