i just lowered an 05 Sunfire 2Door, on Tein S-Tech Springs and KYB AGX struts.
two problems have arisen... first off, there is a terrible knocking/banging sound coming from the passenger front assembly. im hoping that stiffeningup the settings on the strut will alleviate this, but could it possibly be the mount?
and second of all, i have heard a sort of myth about "if you want the rear assembly to go lower, there is a mount/bracket you have to remove. if you dont, it will always sit at stock height"
is there any truth to this?
Did you compress the front springs?
of course i compressed the spring. you cant get teh stock one out with doing that. andit makes it hella easier to put the assembly back together while the new spring was under compression...
any more information would be great.

Reason I'm asking is because I had a friend who didn't compress the front springs but they were on there correctly, the springs were basically doing nothing while sitting on the strut. It was making a knock noise because the strut was basically bottoming out and when he turned the wheel, you heard lock clicking/knock noise.
Not trying to flame or anything, just asking.
no no, any information is great. i was thinking maybe if the spring twisted in the seat while i was putting it back together, that may be causing it.

I was thinking:
1. Spring wasn't compressed
2. There was a error during the installation
Sucks but you might have to re-install the front ones just to make sure they are sitting correctly. It's better to do it now than have something bad happen in the future.

i think im just gonna tear it apart, and see whats up.... i really hope it isnt the strut mount... i have heard that alot of people have been replacing them.

I don't think it's the strut mount unless it's not sitting correctly or something odd.

I just lowered on the same thing about 3 weeks ago. Never heard any popping noises, but i replaced the strut mounts when i installed everything. 90% of the time, the "popping soung" is a bad strut mount.

Question: What mounts did you replace them with?
ok well we got the problem of the banging fixed. but still dont know how to get the rear to come down. Any one every have this problem.
The S-tech sits higher in the rear. It's 1.7" drop front, 1.5" drop rear.
we got absolutely NO drop in the rear. none whatsoever...
The rear takes a while... especially with a light lowering spring like you purchased. It takes a minute to settle, it'll look better soon.
The knocking noise you may be hearing is simply the top bolt on the struts not being tight enough. Compress the spring and tighten the bolt with an air gun or something comparable. The strut stem with the thresds may be spinning causing it to not tighten. That's all I think it is. Double check your work, it could be a number of quick oversights like this.
The back isnt settling at all. It started at 27 inches and it is still there. Any reason for this? anything at all we wont be offended
you dont need to compress the spring.
as for the rear not being lowered, is the spring seated the right way (ie. upside down or not?)
OK so I guess they just needed to settle the rear came down 1 1/2 inches

Maybe I'm wrong but I didn't know you had to compress drop springs because the are already shorter than the stock ones!

All springs need to be compressed somewhat before mounting on the strut. If the spring is able to be just slid over the strut and bolted in without even a little compression, you will get excessive noise due to the spring moving around under suspension rebound. The stock springs usually need to be compressed about three to four inches to fit the strut tower. Lowered springs should need to be compressed at least 1 inch for the tower to be attached.
