I was wondering if the poly control arm bushings really made a big difference in the suspension? I have to get my car re-aligned anyways so I thought this could be a cheap upgrade if it makes a noticeable difference

Do it, any upgrade like that is better than stock. I would suggest them, i did mine and it stiffened the front up a little more than factory.

are they very hard to do in your own drive way? or do I need to have a shop do it? also what about a set of front and rear sway bars?

The old bushings need to be pressed out and the new ones pressed in. so if you dont have a press i would recommend a shop to do it. and i dont have sway bars but from what i hear if you have a front then get the rear. i have heard good and bad things about the front.
