Hello all i am currently installing new rear shoes on my 02 cavalier i bought a new spring kit and everything... i have both sides installed now but the problem now is one drum turnes freely and the other is hard to turn there is no tension on the emergency break line.. so i am stuck i do have the chliton manual for refrence and i do have everything insatlled correctly i have the adjustment screw on both sides set to the smallest setting...PLEASE HELP ME!!!
if the adjuster is all the way in u shouldn't have a problem. are u using the old drums? or did u replace them? if you're using the old ones do they have a lip on them? are the shoes centered? if the starwheel is all the way in and u took the lip off the old drums (or replaced them) they should both turn freely.
Yah man i am using the old drums i should probably get them turned tomorrow maybe that will make the difference...??
OK i bought new drums have everything installed but still the one side will not turn freely???? i am sooo confusd i have never seen this before.... ne suggestions???
What do you mean hanging up??? sorry haha may be a dumb question... but ne way no man i havent driven it cause the one drum will barley turn and i dont wana @!#$ things up on that one side... cause like i said the driver side drum moves very freely and the passenger one doesnt.... HELLPP me :{
The adjuster screw is part of your problem, the drums should not spin freely. Adjust the shoes out a little bit until there is a small amount of drag on both drums, and then it should be good to go. Might even fix your emergency brake problems.

Yes their should be some drag on the rear drums, Also make sure youre bottom brake spring near the adjustment screw is not catching on it, Its common when that spring is not installed properly, I just did a complete rear brake job on my 01 cavalier, New drums / brake shoes / wheel cyls / New spring kit.
