Anti-sway bar - What else do I need?
Sunday, May 20, 2007 6:17 PM
Want to purchase the Eibach front and rear bars for my 2000 Sunfire SE. I do not have an OEM bar. This being the case what do I need to get to complete the install. I don't believe I need anything else for the rear...right? But being that there was no OEM bar I remember reading somewhere I will need to get some OEM parts to complete the front intallation because the kit does not come with everything for a non OEM replacement install.

Listening. I'm in the same boat, as far as having the FE0 setup with no OEM bar at all. I assumed kits like the Eibach came with everything to install from scratch, so if that's not the case I'd like to know too.

The parts you need are listed in the FAQ at the tomp of this forum, part numbers and qty needed for each.

Josh, in the FAQ wrote:I went to the local Chevy Parts Department today, and got a list of parts I'll need to install an FE2 bar on my FE0 Cavalier ... Here's the list he gave me:

2 Clamps 22660396
2 Insulators 22619843
4 Bolts 11516328
2 Links 22657718

I had seen this, but thought "well, of course. The OEM bar isn't going to come as a commercial package, so there are going to be some parts missing". You're saying that something like the Eibach or Addco kit still needs all of these?

Affirmative. GMpartsdirect.com, or newgmparts.com. Should cost less than 40 bucks for all the pieces.

you dont need the bushings and endlinks obviously, you do however need the clamps and bolts (only need 1 though, the other is already there)

Ok... I'm probably about to display some stupidity here: I've got an Addco front bar in my possession. I'm planning to get my mechanic to put it on, and I'm trying to get all the parts together for him. My car has no front bar currently. The kit included bushings and links, as expected. I thought I understood the parts list above, and have purchased 4 x bolts and 2 x clamps from a GM dealer. Am I all set then?

Points of confusion:
a) I see each clamp anchors from one end, and is bolted at the other. This accounts for 2 bolts. What are other two bolts for?
b) 99FireSE's comment "you do however need the clamps and bolts (only need 1 though, the other is already there)". The other what? Is this about the other bolts?

It's probably not completely necessary for me to understand, since I'm not doing it myself, but I like to seem informed. Anyways, hope this will balance out the rear Addco I already have. I'm also taking the opportunity to get some SS brake lines installed, and probably an RkSport lower mount and insert.

you only need one bolt, like you said, the clamps lock in to the subframe on one side and the bolt holds it down. On the passenger side the bolt is already there holding a hardline (cant remember if its power steering or brake) you'll probably need to tap the bolt hole on the driveside as rust builds up in there (pain in the ass btw) then you put the subframe back inplace, attach the endlinks and its in

Awesome, thanks. I wasn't thinking that one of the bolts would already be in place, holding a hardline. Any idea why the FAQ list calls for 4 bolts, if only 1 or 2 get used?

faq doesn't say you need 4, it says the person bought 4, there are only 2 and one is provided stock

Fair enough, but that's not how I read it. "got a list of parts I'll need to install an FE2 bar on my FE0 Cavalier ... Here's the list he gave me". Sounds like the guy behind the counter either had four left in a bag and wanted to finish it, or genuinely thought they were all needed. Plus, the damn things apparently come in bags of 5 -- so the whole afair was destined to confuse me.

i just got the bolt size from the dealer and went to a local fastener shop and got a couple grade 8's in the same size, cost like 10 cents each, dealer wanted something nuts like 15-20 bux each, a few extras dont hurt when they are cheap, but aren't needed.

I got 2 clamps and 4 bolts for about $15, and supposedly that was "trade pricing" since I'm an employee.
