I need some feedback plz
Thursday, May 24, 2007 8:32 AM
I dont know jack about suspension stuff...
But i know i need new shocks n such cuz im still riding on stockers and ive got over 78K miles on em and my moms always complaining that the ride feels like crap.... im used to it by now tho lol
Im on a budget, so what would be my best bet .. as far as the ride and handling and whatever else.
Im kinda torn between Tokico HP's (300 dollars) and the KYB-GR2's (200.00 dollars)
Since the Tokico's are more does that make them a better quality, or not really?
And i also read somewhere on here that the GR2's are not good if u plan on lowering the car .. im not really looking to do that yet, but if i come across a good deal i just might.....so thats also a factor in the decsion.
Thanks for any help

Any oem or factory replacement is NOT good for any lowering. But if you need struts now, Check ebay for reputible sellers and get some AGX's or D-specs and use those on your stock springs for now. Then if you want to lower later, you don't have to buy another set of struts and toss a used set that was far from the end of their life.

Since you appear to be running at stock height, any of the "OEM replacement" struts should be a decent choice. I don't know that you would find a great deal of difference between the performance of them, though I have hear the the HPs may be a bit better made amongst those choices. The most budget-conscious choice would be to go to a wrecker and get a set of stock struts off a car with fewer miles.

If you were willing to consider the cost of the HPs however, I'd suggest paying a bit more and looking into a set of KYB AGX struts so that you get some adjustability. Then you can decide how you want them to ride, rather than accepting the manufacturer's suggestion.

both hps and gr2s are oem replacements. if you plan to lower on either then its not a godo idea. if your gonna spend the 300 on hps, why not spend an extra 50 bucks and get the kyb agxs? they are good to lower up to 1.5" drop if you ever plan on lowering and plus they have adjustable damping.

ok so those are just oem replacements.
yea i was looking at the AGX' s as well, i know need to do this soon, so im just trying to think of whats better in the long run as far as being on a budget.
i might now concider the adjustable ones and work a little more at work to be able to spend the extra cash on them. i think i can get the adjustable ones for around or under $400. any specific brands that are better then the other or not really?
thanks for your feedback so far ..

the only adjustable struts in your price range is gonna be the agxs which are around the 350-375 mark shipped. the other 2 adjustable struts are almost close to 600

The only reason to consider the jump to something even pricier than the KYB AGX struts would be if you might consider a drop of more than 1.5" in the future. That is the warranty maximum for the AGX struts, which corresponds to the drop given by the fairly popular Eibach Prokit springs, and makes the two a popular combination. Beyond that amount of drop, and Tokico D-Specs and Koni Sport "Yellows" are about the only proper options. These are the two options StrippedCav was refering to, and are indeed in excess of $600 for a set.

Considering you don't sound like you'll be lowering the car right away anyways, the AGXs are about the best option for a combination of performance and flexibility.
