the first one will be fine. thats what i use and i have never had any problems with it.

don't even need one use the weight of your car to compress the spring.on the front loosen the big nut on the strut holding it to the mount .take nut off then jack the car up this will slowly release the tension. and the rears can be done by taking the strut out of the car and pushing down on it while someone undoes the mount bolt.

If you have an Autozone or Advanced you can borrow the tool, they'll charge you for it, and you'll be refunded upon returning it.
That's what I always do, though the hassle of doing this the 10 times I have makes me think I should've just bought the damn thing the first time.
