Front Strut Assembly

I've had Sportline Springs with Tokico D-Spec struts on for a while now, however I saw a picture of an installation on the org here that has me questioning if I assembled my front struts correctly. I have a 2004 Cavalier, so it came with the dumb strut mounts where you can't tighten the top nut of the strut by hand...you have to use an impact wrench, and Tokico specifically says not to use one with their adjustable struts. So I decided to convert the top end of my struts to the earlier design where the top nut is accessible. I went to Autozone and ordered Monroe strut mounts for a 98 Z24 Cavalier. I then went to the dealership and had them find out what other parts I needed, which apparently just included the rubber spring seat and the plastic spring perch(the ball bearing was included with the strut mount). I went to a junkyard and quickly ripped the front strut off an older Cavalier to determine if I had everything I needed and I found something additional on this strut: it was a small plastic ring that went between the strut mount and the spring perch/ball bearing. It appeared as though it just slightly changed the angle at which the spring perch sat on the strut. I went ahead and took the spacers from the junkyard and installed them in my strut assembly, assuming that the dealership had just missed that part when they looked it up. However, I just saw a pic of someone changing out their strut mounts, which appear to be of the older variety like the ones I bought, and the plastic rings were not there. Can anyone please tell me if these were supposed to be installed or if they were only used for certain models and I should remove them?
