Help! Popping noise
Tuesday, October 23, 2007 2:10 PM
Ok I have a '99 cavalier Z24 that I have owned for the last couple of years. Shortly after I purchased my car I noticed a slight popping noise in the rear. I first noticed it when I made a turn around on a slight hill, after I left off the brake my car went back slightly and made a pop in the back. Over the last two years this popping happens more often and louder. I really only notice it after I have to brake quickly/ brake hard. Immediately after I left off the brake to go, it pops. It kinda sounds like something is catching and caught on the brake, and once I left off the brake it is forced apart.

I just got back from a mechanic's shop seriously 15 minutes ago. I got an oil change, had the muffler hanger replaced (my car still has the factory muffler so the aftermarket hangers are too small! So my muffler has been flopping around like a sack of balls for the last year.) And I had them inspect my suspension system to figure out this popping noise. They checked all suspension components, tie rod, bearings, brakes...bunch of stuff I can't remember. Everything passed, but they also couldn't get the pop while they test drove it. I am just curious if anyone has had the same issue or has an answer? Any feedback is greatly appreciated, I guess my next step is to take it to another mechanic?

Thanks,
Kayleigh

have you checked the rear struts? when one of my struts went bad i had the same sound. mine was bad especially in reverse but it would do it from when i would hit the brakes too.
