It's my first post here, but I've been reading over the FAQs and old posts back through 07. The way I read the FAQ, an FE2 was standard on the 03, but the only code that looked right on tire cover decal was FE1. Was the FE2 only for the LS model?
I want to add a rear sway bar, and 'm trying to figure out the best match for my stock front sway bar. I'd measure the front bar, but I don't have any calipers available. Thinking it was an FE2 I was looking at the addco or progress sway. However if it's an FE1 would those be too large? The suspension is bone stock at the moment, except for changing my 14s to 16s.
From what I know... what made up a "FE1" and "FE2" suspension changed from 02 to 03 model years... so you can't really compare say a 2000 FE1 to a 2003 FE1 because things changed.
I probably need to update that part of the FAQ.
Ok, so then all 03s should have a 24mm front factory sway bar installed? I guess I should have asked what diameter it is instead of about the RPO code.
I doubt that "all" have a sway bar at all... but those that do have sway bars, will have different size sway bars than the 95-02's did.
I'll see if I can seach a few thousand posts to find the answer
Or I'll just hit up the wrecking yard this week and measure it instead.
I appreciate your replies. The link you gave appears to be correct, and that it's a 19mm bar. I was able to borrow a set of calipers from a coworker and measured it were it's exposed near the driver's side mount. I measured it in 3 places, and it was between 19.2mm to 19.7mm. Unfortunately only the curved section was easily accessible in the parking lot.
I'd appreciate input from anyone. Since the smallest rear bar I see currently available is the progress 22mm, would that work well, or would that be too much on a daily driver?
I have an '05 Sunfire, and it's funny, I went through the same dilemma when I was looking for a rear bar. My front bar measured 19mm too. I ended up going for the Addco bar for a few reasons. The Progress was more expensive, and IIRC it doesn't have end links. I think someone told me one was a sway bar one was a stabilizer bar (Progress). Anyway, I've had mine for a while now, and I've been relatively happy. Haven't had any problems that people suggested would occur w/ a bigger bar on the back (mine's just used as a DD). Handling improved a bit too, but don't expect a night and day difference. The only other changes to the car are 16's from a Z-24 and front and rear strut braces.
Do hope this helps.
