ABS Removal

Has anyone removed their ABS system and components? My engine bay is so limited with space and I would really like to free up some space since my car is summer driven only. I have looked on the internet but haven't been able to find anything similar to our systems as far as what would be needed.

you would need a non-abs master from a non-abs cavalier. I think in 00 or 01 abs became standard, before that, it was an option. Get that master, and re-plumb the brake lines to it.

There are plenty of people on here who did that, I think depending on your car, you will need a BCM (if equipped) for the same options w/o abs as your car has, if you dont have a BCM, then you will need a computer from a donor car with the same options as yours without abs. If you leave your factory equipment, your ABS light will be on, but i am not sire of any other negative side effects.

If your registry is correct, and yours is a 97, you dont have a bcm.

John would you need all that to keep the abs light off or to have the brakes work properly.

because i have removed all abs wires and components on my car and my brakes work with no problems

yeah, thats mainly to keep the ABS light off

some states can be picky on that for inspection, and it is an annoyance in general, but it wont affect the functionallity of the brakes.

Ok great, i was unsure so i ran a few tests and its all good so far. I went as far as removing every bit of wire associated with the abs. So theres no going back for me.
