Im currently running on 225/30R/18 tires (8 inches wide), and the tire basically comes flush with the fender laterally. I.e. If you were to somehow just slowly lower the car the fender wouldn't clear the tire and it would basically "sit" on it.
From the fender to the tire I have about 3" on the front and rear.
I plan on getting the Tokico D-Specs and a set of springs, I have a choice between the Eibach Prokit or Sportlines.
I'm just wondering if I go with the Sportlines and drop it 1.7" and 2.3" (front and rear) would it be safe? I'm worried that if I hit a pot hole (which montreal has many of), that the fender will hit the tire. Is it safe? Is there a way around this?
Here are some pictures of the wheel and the fender:
So with the 1.4" or 1.7"/2.3" drop, will I have to get flarred fenders/roll my fenders or should I be ok?
Many of us are on Sportlines...... myself included, I have never hit my fender.
I never hit my fender either, and I am still rolling on stock rims and tires, which are about a 1/2 inch taller than the 18's I had on it with a 35 series tire. You shouldnt have any worries..
98z24, lowered 2", aem intake, cat-back striaght pipes!, cop ligths in the front and rear, 18" liquid metal's, primer black, tint, full audio and video.
Alright thanks guys! Appreciate the input. I wasnt so much worried about the "height" of the tire, more of the width. Ya its a pretty small tire - and with the dead shock in the front it makes for a pretty rough ride - which is why I need to fix it ASAP.
It would take a pretty hard hit to touch the fender, if that were to happen, hitting the fender would be the least of your worries!
i'm on a 225/40/18 with an 8inch wide rim and coil-over and i can dump it and pretty much tuck tire and i'm yet to rub. you wont have any problems on sport lines
Awesome! Well that helps my worries. So just 1 more question - with the D-Specs should I get the Eibach Sportline springs or go with a coil-over sleeve off of gravana?
Nobody happened to mention, or ask, about
wheel offset. Just because X person is running Y spring and Z tire, doesn't mean another person isn't going to have a problem, if their wheel offset is too high. You could have a tire that's too small, a rim that's only 7 inches wide, and struts with no spring perch, but if your offset is too high you're probably gonna have an issue.

oh man - I have no idea what the wheel offset is on my rims anymore. I've had them for like 2 years and I haven't bothered to keep track of their specs.
in your case offset really isnt an issue. i mean it is but your not going really low enough to worry about it.
well then it isnt an issue. Thanks a lot for the help guys!
Awesome! Thank you for the pics. However, one of my questions got lost in the thread - I'm going to get the tokico D-specs, now should I go with the Sportlines or should I get coilover sleeves from gravana?
Either way would be a decent setup. I have personally ran the d-spec sportline combo and it's not bad, just a lil stiff on bumpy roads.
2009 Ford Mustang V6
heh, ANYTHING would ride like a cadillac compared to now. My front driver shock is completly dead.
OK so I'm going to do the d-spec sportline combo.. Thanks guys.
