Sway bar install
Monday, September 29, 2008 2:29 PM
Hello again, I am thinking of installing a sway bar. I recently skimmed over some past posts about said install. I wanted to know if the install can be done with out dropping the engine cradle completely. If so How, If not since I must drop the cradle are there any bushings between the cradle and the body? If so has anyone replaced them? I have a bit of a o.c.d. issue and if I touch something I want to take care of it from all angles. Hence replace the bushings if there are any. Thanks.

I had Apex Motorsports install mine, but they did it for $42.50 and did so because they have done it a million times.
I am pretty sure they only removed the bolts and popped on the strut brace then put the bolts back on.
The end result has been a lot better cornering characteristics.

What is the engine cradle?

Asking in the right forum, suspension and brakes, will yield more knowledgeable answers.

You can do it without completely removing the cradle.

A front upper strut tower brace is not the same as a front lower sway bar. You got JACKED paying $42.50 for a STB install. For that much you could have bought a 50 piece Craftsmen tool set and did it yourself in 5-10 mins. 15 if you're retarded or stopped to drink a beer/soda/whatever.

Heh, that's funny...and on the J-body it's not an engine cradle, it's a subframe. It barely supports the engine, with only the lower mount attaching it.

there are no bushings on the subframe, its solid metal to metal
