Clunking Or Creeking

I have a 2004 Sunfire. I have a clunking or creaking in the steering column when turning the wheel back and fourth. Could it be the intermediate shaft? Has anyone replaced this themselves? How hard was it? I know there is a TSB on it. I also found a recall on it. I am not sure if my vehicle is covered in the recall I have a call into the dealer. Recall # 08E063000

Thanks

i had a clunking noise but it felt more under the driver's seat than the steering column.
the shop just lubricated it and it went away.

i have the squeeking also. theres a rubber boot around the shaft of the lower column. i was told by my mechanic at work that if you just squirt some wd-40 in between the boot and the metal and turnt he wheel a couple times it would get rid of the sound. i have yet to try it as im lazy. but. its worth a try.

That does work, but I used something heavier than WD-40, just can't remember what it was though. Want to say it was gear oil, anyway I did that a couple times a couple years ago and haven't had anymore clunk.
